Our Walnut Sapling Varieties
Our high-quality, productive, and blue-certified walnut saplings are tailored to suit different climates and soil conditions, ensuring maximum yield in your orchards. Here are the carefully cultivated walnut sapling varieties we offer:
1.
Chandler
The university of California introduced the Chandler Walnut in 1979 and named it after with Chandler, Professor of Pomology, at U.C. Davis. Today it is the most prominent variety grown in California. The Chandler Walnut is large, smooth and oval shaped with a good shell seal. Chander Walnuts are known around the World and are highly prized by buyers for their extra light and high quality kernels. Harvested mid to late season. Chandler Walnuts provide one of the highest kernel yields of any of the varieties.
Hybrid of Pedro x UC 56-224
Weight: 12-13 g
Internal Rate: 50-52%
Pollinators: Franquette, Iverto, Fernette, Fernor, Cisco
2.
Fernor
An excellent new French variety, late leafing, precocious flowering, lateral fruiting and blight tolerant. Late ripening, large fruit of excellent quality; light coloured, easily extracted kernels which store well and have excellent flavour. In France, yields of 1 tonne per hectare at 6 – years – old and 4 – 5 tonnes per hectare when mature are typical. Average vigour and semi erect habit also suitable for hedgerow systems (4m*8m).
Weight: 10-12 g
Internal Rate: 42-44%
Pollinators: Franquette, Iverto, Fernette, Ronde de Montignac
3.
Franquette
Traditional French variety, late leafing, good productivity, excellent nut quality, terminal bearer (1-2 nuts per terminal), requires little prunşng, yields only faşr compared to modern lateral bearing varieties such as Fernor and Lara. Partly self-fertile bearing fruit at 3-5 years. Late fruiting season, nut size mid to large and well sealed. Resistance to blight and codling moth.
Weight: 10-12 g
Internal Rate: 46-47%
4.
Howard
Howard is a laterally fruitful, mid – season walnut with heavy bearing potential. A smaller sibling of Chandler. Howard was released by the University of California in 1979. The semi – upright tree is not as large or vigorous as Chandler and should be pruned to encourage growth. Due to its smaller growth habit, Howard is a good candidate for high – density plantings. Like other late leafing varieties, Howard has reduced blight and codling moth susceptibility. The nut is large, round, smooth and well – sealed with a very high percentage of light kernels (96%).

Internal Rate: 49-51%
Pollinators: Franquette, Iverto, Cisco

Weight: 10-12 g
Internal Rate: 42-47%
Pollinators: Franquette, Iverto, Ronde de Montignac
6.
Lara
French variety, good fruit quality, precocious and highly productivity. Early budbreak and fruit ripening. Average vigour, quite upright in habit and lateral bearing make it suitable for hedgerow systems (4m * 8m).
Weight: 10-12 g
Internal Rate: 45-51%
Pollinators: Franquette, Fernette
